Understanding Your Head Shape

No two heads are alike — and that's exactly why we use a wire conformateur and graph pad in every sizing kit. Head shapes vary considerably, and getting the right fit for a bespoke hat means understanding not just your circumference, but the precise oval of your crown.

Head shapes fall into three broad categories:

• Broad Oval — the width from ear to ear is close to or equal to the front-to-back measurement, giving the crown a rounder appearance from above
• Regular Oval — the most common shape, where the front-to-back measurement is moderately longer than the ear-to-ear width
• Long Oval — the front-to-back measurement is noticeably longer than the ear-to-ear width, giving the crown a more elongated profile

By pressing the wire conformateur gently around your head and transferring the shape onto the graph pad, we capture your exact profile. This tracing is then used with a formillion to create a bespoke mould — the foundation of every hat we make.
